My Mother Tongues

Writing about class and grammar lately. Entering some poetry contests with the poem that came today. It made me cry and smile all at the same time. Writing is so powerful. May you be held in your writing today...whether the words hit the page or just move in your heart.

First Sentences and Research

I spent a lot of today at a bookstore in the Young Adult section and then went to Fiction and Literature. I looked at covers and observed what caught my eye, tried to pay attention to why and then I read the first lines of over 100 novels in both sections. I noticed whether a book was written in 1st person or not. I overheard teens selecting books and then putting them back down. I took myself out for a salad and wrote notes about my experience. While I was at lunch I looked over twitter, most of which was about writing and books. I came home and wrote first sentences for my WIPs. I had a delightful day! What is your first sentence and why?

Happy Arts Advocacy Day!

Art Saves Lives!
Do some art today or support some art or imagine some art...let art spill all over you. Write, dance, do a jig, make a pile of rocks into a found sculpture. Art is everywhere. Find art. Make art. Be art!

Love,
Jodi Su

The Slow Fiction Movement!

Have you heard of the slow food movement? People take the time to cook a meal and savor it with loved ones. How about the locvore movement (working to eat as many local products as possible)? Well, I am ready to launch the Slow Fiction Movement! In this movement writers will not rush to do anything. Action will take place in novels in its own sweet time. Publication will happen when it does and queries will be sent without haste or the need for an immediate reply. Readers will savor the written word at a leisurely pace and all of us will enjoy the process more. Are you in? Let's do this!
