Seriously in the new Really, Really is the new Seriously

I took myself out to breakfast this morning and as writers are wont to do I was listening in on the other patrons conversations. Two college women were chatting about their ridiculous professors. Each sentence ended with either 'seriously' or 'really' (said with the lilt of a question --that is not a question-- at the end). I loved it! Language is alive. At the beginning of my college career I was a linguistics major and everything I learned while in that field points to the truth of my previous statement. There are really no rules, only conventions. Some people get locked into these conventions and avoid the vibrancy of change. When this starts to happen to me I read Gertrude Stein. Seriously, language is alive, really?!
